BFRS – Resettlement Straight from the Horse’s Mouth
Many members of the Armed Forces Community (AFC) are facing the home stretch of their time in service, and British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS) are helping them over the hurdles and into civvy street! With employment and training opportunities available nationwide, within a variety of sectors across the board, BFRS are here to help you cross the finish line first!
Historically, we have frequently relied on the Armed Forces to plug the gaps and help the country operate in times of crisis, a recent example of this being the Army’s assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic with the vaccine roll and providing personnel to support the large-scale temporary NHS Nightingale hospital. BFRS recognises that the skills that service men and women possess don’t end once their time in service ends, and they work with a wide variety of companies who share this appreciation for the value of our AFC.
BFRS Managing Director Neil Dean writes "Many of the exhibitors who exhibit with BFRS, recognise the wealth of experience and valuable skill sets those ex-military personnel have. We are seeing more and more companies sign up to our National Employment & Careers Fairs and we are delighted that over 60+ companies have partnered with BFRS to exhibit at this face-2-face event and advertise their vacancies online at bfrss.org.uk. Exhibitors include; BAE Systems (Event Sponsor), AIS Survivex (Gold Plus Sponsor) and NASC (Event Guide Sponsor).”
Many of the organisations attending have signed up to the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). These awards are for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the AFC, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. Just last year BFRS were awarded the Gold Award in the Employer Recognition Scheme, an achievement to be proud of.
Deputy Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, David A Kerfoot CBE DL attended BFRS’ most recent Employment Event at Catterick Garrison in April and wrote:
“BFRS should be immensely proud of what their organisation has achieved. The thriving environment rich with plenty of opportunities for service personnel to seek new opportunities and develop their skills shone through. It was clear to me how many employers value these events and see the vast potential in employing people who have so much to offer.”
Mims Davies, Minister for Employment at Department of Work and Pensions visited a BFRS Careers Fair earlier this year and spoke very highly of the day and of those in attendance: https://twitter.com/dwppressoffice/status/1489669903145742342
With 60+ exhibitors in attendance and thousands of career and training opportunities available on the day, members of the AFC can hear about the options available for them in their resettlement straight from the horse’s mouth. All AFC members are welcome to attend, and opportunities are available for families and spouses of service members too! All are welcome, regardless of where they are at in their journey to resettlement.
That being said, don’t leave it down to the wire! As a wise philosopher once said, “The early bird gets the worm, the early fox gets the bird”. – Matshona Dhliwayo

About BFRS
As a Social Enterprise, Community Interest Company (CIC), BFRS provide services to tackle social problems and improve Armed Forces Communities and people’s life chances. The key to this is knowing that military resettlement is more than just the brief time when leaving the services, and that it isn't just personnel from the regular forces who are affected. Therefore, all the services BFRS deliver are open to Service Leavers, Reserve Forces, Veterans, civilian MOD employees, as well as partners and families, and it doesn't matter how long or how long-ago people served.
