Job Description
Main purpose of the role: To ensure the efficient and effective management of the Regional Undercover Unit
and all associated covert assets. Ensuring the safety and security of all staff and to
protect the security, integrity, methodology of investigations and the judicial
process.
Key Responsibilities:
- The management of the undercover unit including management of all issues relating to the supervision and
development of police officers and police staff working in the unit.
- Provide advice and guidance on legislation, policy and tactical options to assist in the planning and
implementation of undercover operations.
- Develop and maintain appropriate systems to secure the welfare, safety and protection of undercover officers.
- Identify opportunities for succession planning from thorough oversight of Undercover foundation officers and
staff with a specialist skill set.
- The assessment and management of risk associated with Undercover Operations.
- Liaison with partner agencies involved in the facilitation and delivery of undercover operations.
- Liaison with service providers in relation to covert infrastructure and logistical support for the unit.
- Managing on-going support in relation to undercover officers deployed out of the ERSOU area and to
undercover officers in post deployment phase.
- Develop the use of covert on line tactics to combat serious and organised crime.
- Maintenance of databases associated with the management of the undercover unit.
- Develop the knowledge and skills of both team and individuals to enhance the delivery of this sensitive policing
tactic to the Eastern Region and Nationally.
