Flexible Careers for Military Spouses: Achieve Work-Life Balance with RSA
We recently had the pleasure of meeting some of the team at Royal Sun Alliance (RSA) one of which, was the very lovely Faye Scanlan. Faye is a military spouse who is also a Reinsurance Specialist And Forces Families Lead For RSA Armed Forces Community.
Faye has been in her role for 16 years and its clear she loves her job at RSA.
What really comes across when Faye speaks abut her role at RSA is how much flexibility her role at RSA offers her as a military spouse. Faye explained to us that RSA are very understanding of her need to sometimes move things around, due to her husbands schedules and deployment. This has allowed Faye to continue her a career with longevity, despite the demands of being a military spouse.
Faye also explained that she has moved around a fair bit over the years and has taken her career at RSA along with her. RSA offer a lot of flexibility and really champion the needs of military personnel and their families.
Standing Out from the Crowd
One thing that RSA stand out for is they really do know and understand the difficulties faced by military spouses, especially when it comes to holding down a career especially with all of the upheaval that comes along with a military lifestyle.
What really stood out for BFRS is that RSA offer a pathway for military spouses to be able to continue their career with the needs of their serving family members, which is a real bonus for RSA and also pretty unique.
The overriding thing that many military spouses tell us here at BFRS is, that they find it hard to hold down a role because of possible deployment and moving.
Does RSA have the answer to this problem with its commitment and flexibility, we think it does!
RSA have a long history of supporting the Armed Forces community, evident by their ongoing commitment to employing many ex-military personnel.
Faye also explains that RSA are committed to employing more veterans and members of the armed forces community.
Members of the Armed Forces Covenant
In January 2023 RSA announced it had become a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant. The Covenant is a government-backed scheme that advocates for the unique needs of those within the Armed Forces Community, ensuring employers create environments in which all those who serve, have served and/or have serving family members are understood, treated fairly, and supported to thrive.
The signing also marked the launch of an RSA Armed Forces Employee Resource Group (ERG), co-chaired by Ian Dawes, who currently serves as an Army Reservist Lieutenant in the Royal Corps of Signals, and Victoria Bauling, a military veteran who served six years in the Army Intelligence Corps as both a Regular and Reservist.
The RSA Armed Forces ERG is an open group for all those affiliated with the Armed Forces and for those interested in the impact and challenges this community can sometimes face.
RSA Insurance unveils war memorials to honour fallen colleagues with service of rededication at the National Memorial Arboretum.
RSA Insurance, also recently unveiled the installation of their war memorials commemorating former colleagues who served and gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The war memorials had originally been displayed at various RSA office buildings across the UK before eventually finding a home in the National Memorial Arboretum.
However, in 2014, the memorials were placed in secure storage by the Arboretum when the Remembrance Centre was constructed, and a project to create a permanent home for them commenced in 2019.
They are now on display at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. Well worth a visit if you have not already been.
